Jeffrey J. Mountin, aka «Mountin Man», was taken away from us by a heart attack on October 8, 2004. Mountin Man was the proud original owner of his 1986 Yamaha XJ 700 Maxim X and list-owner (moderator) of the XJ-owners mailing list. As participant in e-mail discussions and as list-owner, Mountin Man left an indelible impression on fellow XJ-owners around the world. He will be remembered for his helpfulness, detailed insight into technical matters, his undying wit and his personable style.

Mountin Man was a genuine friend to all XJ-owners, of which only a few had the privilege of meeting with him in the Real World. He will be sorely missed by all.

Godspeed, Mountin Man. Ride the Clouds.

For our friend Jeff; by Rev. Carlton Larsen:

The road continues on,

But we come to an end.

The days we have number so few

Ride free my friend.

The wind was in your hair,

The rain was on your face,

The bike you rode with joy

Sits silent in its place.

The thrilling rumble silenced,

The growl is heard no more.

The front tire firmly planted,

On the silent garage floor.

The Maxim X that dusted

Every Harley™ on the block,

Awaits the eager throttle hand

While we sit here in shock.

The screen goes dark.

The cursor blinks one final time.

The XJ owner's list grieves.

The Mountin man is gone.

A burn out mark is what this leaves,

On our hearts and in our song.

Ride free Jeff Mountin.

Ride the clouds.

Ride home Jeff Mountin.

To the one who made all roads.

Some day we'll meet up there,

And you will win another race.
